March Break will be here before you know it! Not only is it a much-needed break for the kids to shake off that deep winter chill and start getting back outside a bit more, but it’s also a wonderful opportunity to explore the Maritimes. There’s no shortage of fun winter activities, organized March Break events, and family-friendly spots to check out during your week off!
The Atlantic provinces are all over the place this year! NB’s March Break will run from March 6-10, NS will run from March 13-17, and PEI will have theirs a bit earlier from February 20 to March 3 to make room for the upcoming (and very exciting) Winter Games!
If there’s one thing we know will ALWAYS hit the spot this time of year, it’s hot chocolate! The question: where is the best spot to grab a hot cup of delicious chocolatey sweetness? We’ve gathered a small list of some of the best places to check out.
Hot Chocolate Highlights:
Leonidas Cocodip – Dartmouth
Rousseau Chocolatier – Halifax
World Tea House – Halifax
Chocolate River Station (Stand is in the parking lot) – Riverview/Moncton
Cafe Codiac – Moncton
The Tall and Small Cafe – Antigonish
When it comes to March Break activities and events, there are plenty of things to fill your days with exploration and fun.
Moncton has put together an interactive map with outdoor play locations like skating rinks, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and more! The city of Moncton has also put together an event schedule with plenty of community happenings over the week!
Sackville NB will be hosting parent & tot skates, as well as lunchtime skates throughout the week! You never want to miss an opportunity to check out the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings. There are so many local artisans and incredible food – it is a MUST while in town. And for the musically inclined, the Mount Allison Department of Music will be hosting several student and faculty-led shows at Convocation Hall!
For something a little more off the beaten path, Kings Theater in Annapolis Royal will be putting on some exciting and fun theatre workshops! Everything from improv classes to playwriting and physical theatre – there’s a class for anyone looking to step up their acting chops. And the Sydney Street Pub hosts weekly trivia events to help keep your wits sharp during your stay in the quiet coastal town!
It’s shaping up to be a bit of a quiet March Break in Antigonish, but keep an eye on the community event calendar to see if there is anything that piques your interest! But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a fantastic destination if you’re in the mood for a road trip. Being right on the doorstep of Cape Breton and having some of the most picturesque scenery in Canada is a draw, all on its own.
Halifax/Dartmouth will be abuzz through the week of March break, with so many things to see, do, and eat, there’s no way we can list them all. We HIGHLY recommend taking the kids to check out the Emera Oval for some outdoor fun. It’s the largest outdoor, artificially refrigerated ice surface East of Quebec and is as big as THREE NHL hockey rinks!!
At the Woodlawn Public Library in Dartmouth, ECMA nominee Sue McBride will be putting on children’s concerts on March 14th and 16th!
There you have it! A quick snapshot of what’s on the horizon for March Break! Be sure to keep an eye on community pages and calendars for more exciting things on the go.
