Ready for an eventful holiday season?! The 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship: It’s an exciting year for Maritimers who will have the opportunity to attend games in the host cities of Moncton and Halifax! It’s a holiday hockey tradition that hits even closer to home this year!
The tournament runs from December 26th to January 5th, 2023. Tickets to individual games will start going on sale through early December. Even if you don’t manage to snag any tickets, there will be SO many festivities and exciting things on the go in Moncton and Halifax.

Moncton/Dieppe:
Year of the Outback is the theme at Magnetic Hill Zoo’s Wild Lights evenings throughout the month! Stop in on December 8-12, 15-19, 22-23, 26-31 or January 1-7 to see hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights throughout the park!
The Barra MacNeils Celtic Christmas will entertain the whole family at the Capitol Theatre on December 21st. Celtic spins on Christmas classics, and a selection of their very own musical originals – you won’t want to miss this one!
Sackville NB:
Grandma and the Silver Belles is presented by Live Bait Theatre and runs from December 7th-17th at the Legion in Sackville! Holiday entertainment AND a delicious meal at the same time? Sign us up!
Moonlight Madness returns on December 9th! Local vendors, wagon rides, a Dungeons & Dragons workshop, HOT CHOCOLATE… This is the 30th annual Moonlight Madness and it is always a blast. There’s a lot to see and do as you support local businesses and take in downtown Sackville’s unique shopping experience.
Digby
Jason Spinney from Annapolis Valley’s southern country band Wichitaw will play at the Sydney Street Pub on December 16th! Wichitaw’s newest album was recently nominated for the Music Nova Scotia Country Recording of the year and Jason is known for his fantastic acoustic shows.
Antigonish
There’s an evening of laughs in store for December 15th with comedian James Mullinger and his Holiday Comedy Night, held by the Alumni Association. James has been nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award and has performed for a full house at several venues in the Maritimes.
Halifax/Dartmouth
Evergreen Festival kicked off on November 25th and runs all the way until December 18th! This 4-week long outdoor festival celebrates all things Nova Scotia. Culture, food, spirits, art, craft, and so much more. Lots of events on the go, and the Evergreen market is not one to be missed!
The Halifax Public Gardens holiday lights are on display until January 1st and they are STUNNING. The lights are on from 5-9 every evening and make for a delightful walk through the gardens. Plus, there are some spectacular home light displays throughout the city. Grab a hot chocolate, pile the crew into the car, and do some touring around neighbourhoods to take in the sights.
