When was the last time you let your taste buds take the lead on your Maritime adventures?
Sure, you’re probably stopping in at a favourite restaurant or grabbing a quick snack on your travels. But food can be just as much the destination as anything else – so here are a few of Coastal Inn’s top spots for a bite in our wonderful communities.
Moncton/Dieppe
Notre Dame de Parkton – This place is the textbook definition of a hidden gem. The restaurant has a VERY distinct look, an intimate homage to the owner’s Acadian upbringing. You will find some of the best handmade sandwiches in Atlantic Canada, baked/smoked beans like NO other, and a whole host of fun weekly features.
Mai Thi Pho & More – You’ll have to make a quick trip into Riverview to hit this spot, but it is WELL worth it! Mai Thi took over the location that housed Nico’s Bakery for years, and they’re carrying on that legacy, continuing to make many of the baked goods that Nico’s was known for. But now, a full and authentic menu of delicious Vietnamese food is available, too!
Sackville NB
Song’s Chopsticks – Korean lovers REJOICE. Song’s Chopsticks has an incredible selection of Korean main dishes like Japchae, Bibimbap, and Bulgogi. They also serve sushi rolls, noodle bowls – and have their own version of a delightfully sweet & savoury Korean fried chicken that you should absolutely try out!
Antigonish
Gabrieau’s Bistro – with a menu that perfectly balances French, Italian, and classic North American cuisines (with a few well-executed Asian influences, to boot!), Gabrieau’s is a favourite among locals in Antigonish. Stop by their iconic Main Street location and enjoy a delicious meal with a perfectly paired glass of wine.
Digby
Sydney Street Pub & Cafe – name a more iconic duo than a coastal Maritime town and classic pub fare, we’ll wait 😉. That said, good pub food is more than just tossing whatever you can find into a deep fryer. Sydney Street Pub does well to prove this point. Good quality ingredients, prepared with care and attention to detail. It’s always a good sign when a pub menu is still a reasonable size and isn’t jam-packed with 100 items to pick from!
Halifax/Dartmouth
Bar Kismet – this is an EXPERIENCE. Bar Kismet recently made #13 in the Top 100 Restaurants in Canada list – a spot they are extremely deserving of. You would be hard-pressed to find a place with as much character, and their offerings are incredible. Artful, handcrafted cocktails, and a tightly executed seafood-centric menu leave you feeling like you finally understand how approachable fine dining can actually be.
The Canteen on Portland – There’s something so inviting about this place on Portland Street. Their menu straddles the line between a modern take on some pub classics, and an unpretentious glimpse at fine technique. It’s a bright and inviting restaurant that’s perfect for brunch, lunch, or dinner! Their crispy pork belly… 🤤 YUM
Is your stomach growling yet?! Ours sure is. Hopefully, this gives you a few highlights to check out on your travels when the hunger strikes! If there is one thing that never fails to bring us together, it’s good food!
Happy (and tasty) travels!
