August: the last month of summer seems to come out of nowhere and in the blink of an eye! While it might mean summer is on its last legs, this August is jam-packed with events and activities to take in. Soak up some of those fleeting summer rays and experience everything the East Coast has to offer. Here’s a quick snapshot:
Moncton/Dieppe
On August 5th – Moncton will host an exciting matchup between Sunderland AFC (having just achieved a 2nd tier Championship League promotion) and Montreal FC (MLS) at the Blue Cross Medavie Stadium on UdeM’s campus! Tickets are available here.
Acadie Rock is back and presents the 2nd edition of Backyard Menu. August 12th-20th, you’ll have the chance to sample some of the original brews, dishes, and desserts in the greater Moncton area!
The inspiration for the menu is the iconic Acadian Banjo Queen, Lisa LeBlanc.
Stop by the Green Pig Country Market in Salisbury from August 19th-28th for the annual Sunflower Festival. Check out the beautiful sunflower field, snap some social-worthy shots, get your sunflower bloom to bring home, and browse some local artisans/crafters.
Canada’s largest and most intense street hockey tournament will drop the puck starting on August 27th – Open to men, women, and all ages – grab your stick and sign your team up today!
Sackville
Feeling the urge to move? Why not head to the Music Barn in Sackville for the Pig & Promenade square dance and pulled pork buffet on August 18th! Part of the Levee on the Lake festival from Aug 18-22, this event will be a fun one – with a dance, buffet dinner, and late-night concert!
Halifax/Dartmouth
August 6th and 7th are prime for visiting Halifax’s North End. The Northern Lights Lantern Festival is a day of fun and creativity for all ages, where old friends run into each other and new friends are made. The festival is a celebration of the vibrancy and diversity of Halifax’s North End – a community festival in the truest sense where everyone is welcome. There is no charge for admission, BBQ or activities.
Music lovers won’t want to miss Vibrancy Festival – featuring several electronic music acts, including Green Velvet – this one is underway from August 19th-20th and you can grab your tickets here!
After that, the Halifax Urban Folk Fest runs from August 28th to September 4th – this festival is in its 13th year and features many talented folk artists. Check out the lineup, schedule, and get tickets here.
Digby
Digby Scallop Days are starting TODAY (August 4th-7th)! This standout features a farmer’s market every Friday and Sunday along the waterfront downtown. There is also live music on the promenade downtown on Thursday evenings and live music every weekend at the Sydney Street Pub and cafe. Digby is the perfect base for adventure, with picturesque sights, hiking trails, and historic lighthouses to see.

Antigonish
Nova Scotia Summer Fest returns August 19th-20th in Antigonish! Jimmy Rankin, Walk Off The Earth, and The Trews are in the lineup, so this is NOT one to miss. There will be tons of fantastic music, some delicious bites from food vendors, and camping is just a hop-skip-and-jump away from the concert venue!
